Description
THE PREMIER (and really only decent) BOULDERING AREA IN FRUITA!
This is the big exposed hill that is opposite of Kingsview/Horse Thief Canyon Road from the Devil's Canyon parking lot. You can park here if you want, but the lot is often crowded. I recommend parking at the lot to the right before you get to Devil's Canyon. There is also a lot that is past the Devil's Canyon parking lot that is also on the right.
The rock here is an interesting mix of conglomerate sandstone (which is found at Rigg's Hill) and softer Dakota sandstone (found at Dynamite Shacks). The problems on the conglomerate sandstone are cleaned up already, since the rock is way stronger. The ones on the Dakota aren't and require much more laps on before the rock quality is good (the same thing that was needed for Dynamite Shacks in the early 2000s).
Getting There
From Fruita off of the Interstate, follow the roundabouts towards the Monument on CO Highway 340 (Broadway for locals). Take a left hand turn on to Kingsview Road. Continue on this rock. Pass the turnoff on the right for Snooks Bottom, and instead head to the left. Follow this road until the first designated parking lot on the right is noticed, and park here.
You can also park on the back side of Opal Hill, which is found as you past the Devil's Canyon trailhead/parking lot. This main parking lot for Opal Hill is found on the right as well.
