The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation
Bumbling Stock
Evil Area
Ghost Crag
Highlander
Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves
Description
Behemoths are two very large boulders with a handful of nice climbs. Behemoth 1, the higher of the pair, is as big as a house and almost completely blank. Behemoth 2 is smaller and more popular, hosting one of the canyon’s best lines - Goodbye to Romance Assis.
Getting There
These boulders are located on the hillside west of the main 268 area, underneath another large bloc known as Manifest Destiny. Park at the next large pullout upcanyon from 268 parking, and locate a small climber's trail that switchbacks and trends east before cutting back towards Behemoth 2, way up the hill.
