Description Suggest change

This collection of boulders lies at the northwest end of the South Bluff, on a little knoll above Messenger Creek. Hidden from view by the trees and perched on a little ridge above the creek, this area is a surprisingly short walk from the car.

Surprise Boulder and Lil' Surprise sit right on the backbone of this little ridge, while Meth Mouth and the adjacent problems lie lower on the hillside to the south and west. Messenger Boulder and Logical Bastard are near the very end of the ridge. Logical Bastard is on the Lake side of the ridge, while Messenger Boulder is just around the bend, to the west.

Getting There Suggest change

From the parking lot at the southwest corner of Devils Lake, head up the climber's trail to the south, as if headed for the Reserve. This trail climbs the slope south of the parking lot. Where it rises above a little saddle to the west and the trail turns southeast, leave the trail and traverse the saddle. If there are no leaves you may see rocks on the ridge ahead - Surprise! - on down to the southwest - Meth Mouth. In summer it is easiest to find Surprise Boulder first, on the ridgeline, then find other boulders from there.

Logical Bastard and Messenger Boulder can also be found from the parking lot by walking upstream until Messenger Creek turns more to the south, then heading uphill.
