Description of Area
Before climbing at Fitzgerald South, please make sure to fill out the liability waiver. The waiver can be found here: https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/w/opf1hi1dth4kx1cpuhdbzk/web/ and at signage on the climber's trail before reaching the Schoolhouse.
****** VERY IMPORTANT: We have neighbors! There is a private residence right at the base of the Schoolhouse. So, there is no music in the Swing Station and Schoolhouse area. Please be respectful of their privacy at all times.********
******Please always keep dogs on a leash or under the owner's control. *******
Welcome to Fitzgerald South. Everything here is set up for lead climbing with very comfortable distances between the bolts and Mussy hooks to be lowered off. You'll find a wide range of climbs from 5.3 to the potential of 5.14, ranging from 25 to 50 feet tall. Please be aware that although the rock is relatively hard, it still has fracturing areas and potential for rock fall. It would be advised to wear helmets. The proximity to cities and towns in Northwest Arkansas makes this an ideal location to get a few hours of climbing in with a partner and still get a full day of work. The steeper sections will most likely be dry even in a downpour. The combination of west-facing and the tree canopy gives it plenty of shade for comfortable summer Climbing, which extends the season well into the heart of the Heat, making it a true 4 season destination. This area is owned by the Trailblazers, a local nonprofit, and is open to the public. The development of this area was a collaboration with the Trailblazers Access Fund and the Arkansas Climbers Coalition. This was all supported through a grant from the Walton Family Foundation.
Areas are numbered in order of approach, from north to south.
Getting There and Parking
5 min walk From Bayyari Park: Park in the parking lot. Go east (right) onto the Stage Coach Trail loop (SCTL). In about 100 yards, you will cross a dirt road. Take a right just past the road on SCTL; you will see a climber sign. Continue uphill and go past a switchback. After that, the trail cuts back to the north; at this point, take the climber's trail to the right (sign). The trail goes next to a garage and house on the right; you will start seeing rock on the left. Stay on the trail; it will take you to The School House area. Continue South along the bluff's base to access the rest of the climbing in the South areas.
