Description
You don't want to go to The Badlands. Nothing good comes from the Badlands.
Very steep hike. No trail. Lots of choss and moss. Nothing but good times.
Getting There
Find Tank Murdoc. Then go directly downhill. Keep going... keep going. It's steep and slippery with pine needles. It's technically only about a half mile approach, but it will feel much longer, especially on the return journey. I've made it from the car to the boulders in under 7 minutes, but plan for closer to 20-25 down, and likely 30+ back up. Hiking back up, I like to hike to the western ridge and follow the nose of this back up in a zig zag pattern, typically cresting out closer to The Jewel. Can also be approached from The Jewel for overall less elevation change, although you need to hike a little further and make sure you don't drop down too early and into the wrong canyon.
Eventually it will level off into a peaceful meadow, reminiscent of the Happy Hunting Grounds. This is the central area with the highest density, and a great place to base your day out of. The Project boulder faces downhill, with a slew of inviting looking problems that are all a bit harder than you might think. The Beer boulder is directly ahead, with a slightly overhanging face with some great huecos/movement to a very tall (but easy/dirty) slab. The Spaceballs boulder lies directly between those two, with more boulders scattered on both hillsides and down canyon, culminating with the very tall and obvious Prohibition Prow.
