Please do not camp or park near the red gate and home at the end of the county road. Haunt Hollow requires four wheel drive to reach the parking area and camping. If you can not make it back into the parking area, please park at the first gate on the right and hike in.
Camping:
There is a designated camping area at the end of the Forest Service RD (designated parking area) which requires four wheel drive to reach. The closest alternative camping is primitive forest service land near the Upside Down Cave. This area has less private land surrounding it and is more secluded.
Description
***This area cannot sustain large groups at this time. The road to access the parking is currently in very poor condition, requiring 4x4 vehicle with clearance. The area is also adjacent to private land. Parking/ camping anywhere but the designated areas will result in access issues. Please carpool from the Alum Cove Natural Bridge area if coming with multiple vehicles. If there is no available parking in the designated parking areas, please go to a difference crag. Rock Creek is 30 minutes away and Cowell is about 20 min. away.***
The Haunt, one of Arkansas' most recent and exciting developments, is an exceptional little crag, hosting over 20 quality lines on some of the most bullet rock in the state. The main attraction, the Haunted Wall, has perhaps one of the best 5.12s in the state, Boogeyman, as well as a few other stellar 5.12s. The adjacent walls, while maybe less awe-inspiring than the Haunted Wall, have fantastic climbs on them as well and deserve attention on a trip to Haunt.
The style of these climbs is often steep and thuggy, usually involving one or more roof sections and overhanging boulder problems. Comparisons have been made to both Prohibition and Invasion, so be ready for the steepness. The average route height is 55-60 feet. Most of the routes get sun during the majority of the day, but shade can be found in the early morning and afternoon.
There are also some satellite areas that are considered near enough Haunt Hollow to be included on this page. For example, the Upside Down Cave currently has some hard projects in it and is close to the Haunt proper. You can expect more routes to be established as more rock is discovered in this region.
Getting There
Camping
There is some camping in the parking area at the end of the Forest Service road. It is limited, and gets smaller with the amount of cars present. If this area is full, there is dispersed camping on Forest Service land near the Upside Down Cave. This area is less surrounded by private land and is more secluded.
Please DO NOT camp at the end of the county road near the red gate. See map below for private land boundaries.
