Description
Copper Mountain has the most popular bouldering in Terrace! This area has many developed boulders/problems and is located at the base of Copper Mountain. This area has easy access walking or driving and is located nearby many sport, mixed, trad, and multipitch routes. There's plenty of parking space along the hydro line and everything can be accessed by foot from there. There is a good mix of sun exposed and shaded boulders. Many of the boulders have flat ground and moderate heights for safe falls.
The approaches are all easy, many are only a few meters from the road access.
Getting There
There are two ways to access the bouldering at Copper Mountain. The Parmenter route allows vehicle access and a shorter walk to the north end boulders. The golf course route is walk-in only and access the mid-portion of the bouldering area.
To access with a vehicle - From Terrace, drive east along Highway 16. 2.8km past the roundabout, turn right on to Crescent street. After 200m turn left and head along Haaland Ave. Follow Haaland for 1km and turn right onto Parmenter Ave. Follow Parmenter for approx. 50m and turn right onto the gravel hydro access road. Either park and walk from here or continue to drive up the steep trail immediately on your left. This road is not maintained and is only suitable for vehicles with good clearance. 4x4 is recommended. 600m up the hydro access road, take the steep switchback turn to your left and follow for another 150m. A large boulder (Buffalo Rock) will be on your left, parking is adjacent to buffalo rock.
To access via golf course - Park at the north end of the main Skeena Valley Golf Club parking lot. From there, follow a dirt road/trail that for 1km continues north and eventually swings east towards Copper Mountain. Look for a gravel pit, just past the pit a trail jumps off to the left that heads up to the power line.
