Description

The Gold Mine consists of a massive number of boulders ranging from talus field blocs to boulders secluded in the woods. The majority of the development has been in the lower gold mine and is the closest to the road. The whole zone is within easy walking distance and is pretty dense. However, the middle and upper zones start to head up a steep hill with boulders the whole way. Due to the relative newness of the zone directions for the middle and upper zones are far from perfect as is the trail the further you travel uphill. I encourage everyone to look and save the topo photo for the lower gold mine. That trail leads to the middle and upper zones.

Area classics include Performance Anxiety (V5), Color of Time (V9), Silhouette (V5), Strike Zone (V7), and Nighthawk (V5)

Getting There

From the small pulloff on the river side of the road, walk across the road and locate the probably faint trail 15-30 feet (that's a guess) West of the parking area (If able, watch vimeo.com/363284129 at 24 seconds you can see a clip taken from the pulloff and us walking into the woods on the trail). I know that the trail used to have pink ribbons but I think they are gone now. The trailhead is located by a pine tree (probably doesn't help). the trail has a few down trees as of last year that you need to step over. Follow the trail for 3-5 minutes until you see rocks. You have now entered the ABC area. If you've successfully followed the trail to the T junction, look to the left and you'll see the Ant Boulder. It's a very nice warm-up slab boulder that should be obviously seen from the T junction. That should be your first sign that your in the right area.

To get to the gold mine from here, travel along the trail east (right on the topo) for another 3-5 minutes and you'll run directly into Alexander the Great Boulder. Alexander the Great Boulder is the most obvious sign of entering the gold mine and will help you find everything else. This marks the beginning of the Lower Gold Mine. Continue right around alexander the great and follow the trail as it leads up a moderate hill. You'll soon veer right and pass the Major League boulder on the left. Continuing uphill and under a GIANT boulder, you should be able to spot the Color of Time boulder to the right. This marks the end of the Lower Gold Mine.

From Color of Time boulder follow the trail uphill. The trail generally follows the boulders that guard the talus field on the other side of them. As you go uphill and if you lose the trail just stay within eyesight of the boulders. Very little development has been done at the middle and upper zone.
