Description Suggest change

Too crowded at Groom Creek? Love avoiding broken glass and cacti? Is petting sharp granite a picture of your ideal way to spend an afternoon? If you answered yes to any of these, then come on down to the Bloody Basin Boulders. Or don't. Seriously, I don't recommend it. Watch out for hunters, atv riders, wild animals, spine laden desert flora, and UV rays. The only plus side to this tiny rock pile is that it is up at almost 4k feet of elevation, and a bit cooler than the Phoenix temps.

TLDR: Don't make the mistake I did and turn off the highway thinking you can find some gem of a boulder. Like Ackbar said, "It's a trap!"

Getting There Suggest change

The few climbable boulders are just off of their namesake road, Bloody Basin, which is just miles south of the 69 turn out from the I-17. You can see the boulders from the freeway, and if you are thinking "these don't look like much", then you are right. After exiting, take the groomed dirt road down until a left turn appears, with a sign cautioning that the road ahead will be rough and that 4x4 is recommended. Fortunately, the road is decent up until the parking for the boulders, and a sedan can get you close enough to a pullout that is a 3 minute approach. (Look for a right pullout near the boulders).
