Description Suggest change

The Paffenstein is the home mountain of Esienerz. Its name (pastor stone) comes from the silhoutte of the mountain looking like a person praying. You can enjoy this view (and also a beautiful view of Eisenerz and the Erzberg) from the Präbichel overlook.
There are numerous multi pitch routes and via ferratas to access the summit (1871 m).

Getting There Suggest change

From Graz take A9 towards St. Michael and exit the highway in Traboch. Follow 115 (Eisenstraße) to Eisenerz. Once in town turn right onto Hans-von-der-Sann-Straße and the right again onto Ausraße. Follow this until you see an obvious parking lot on the left (47.5452, 14.8966).
Continue up the road until you hit well marked hiking trails.

Descent

Suggest change
Two descent options from the summit:

1) Follow the signs down for Markussteig (~1.5 h)

2) From the summit head to the right (east) across the plateau and descent via Südwandsteig (B, Via Ferrata). The via ferrata starts at the lowest point of the plateau (~2 h).
