Description
This is a large glacial erratic that sits on Bannon Hill just uphill from some colonial era foundation ruins, thus the Foundation Boulder. At about 10-11 feet maximum at the top, this is no means a highball, but it might just be some of the best bouldering in the area (very limited). All four sides feature climbable routes. There is a stable downclimb that is good for beginners and also some harder features catering to a more advanced level of climbers. There really is something for everyone here!
Getting There
Park at the Turning Mill Rd. parking lot. Hike up the power-line trail for about 10 minutes or 0.8 miles before taking a second trail on the right onto the yellow loop/Bannon Hill loop trail (number 98 on the map). You will pass a sign about vernal pools before entering the woods. Walk approximately 2 minutes before coming to a fork in the trail. Stay to the left of the trail, and continue to follow yellow and blue trail markers for about 3-4 minutes. When you start going downhill and the trail begins to do a few switchbacks, look for the Foundation Boulder which sits right on the yellow loop/ Bannon Hill trail.
