Description
This area is typically used for mountain biking and dog walkers, but there are two glacial erratics that lie on the far side of Bannon Hill. Foundation Boulder has some decent routes that range in difficulty with a 10 foot topout. Bannon Hill Boulder is shorter, about 6 feet high, but had many good holds for a quick warm-up, but it needs to be cleaned.
Getting There
This area is located just SW of the mall. See the MP Map for exact location.
Park at the Turning mill rd Parking lot. Hike up the power-line trail for about 10 mins or 0.8 mi before taking a second trail on the right onto the yellow loop/ bannon hill loop trail (number 98 on the map). You will pass a sign about vernal pools before entering the woods. Walk approx. 2 min before coming to a fork in the trail. Stay to the left of the trail, and continue to follow yellow and blue trail markers for about 3-4 min. When you start going downhill and the trail begins to do a few switchbacks, look for the Foundation boulder which sits right on the Yellow loop/ Bannon hill trail. To find the Bannon Hill boulder, head back up the hill approx 2 min following the Yellow and blue trail markers until you reach an unmarked trail heading across the hill. follow this trail, and the boulder will be off the trail to your right.
