Description Suggest change

Somewhat alpine. The peak and bouldering area is at ~9600 feet. Temperatures here are usually very nice in the summer months and untenable in from mid fall to mid spring.

The rock is generally 'egg' shaped granite. The outer layer can often have some flaky, loose rock, but when good lines are found or cleaned of choss, the underlying material is quality.

Though a number of boulder problems and roped lines have been established, there are still many options for the aspiring first ascensionists.

Getting There Suggest change

Take NM-48 / Billy The Kid Trail to County Road 532 in Alto, NM. Drive up forest road 117 to Monjeau Lookout. Park at the last gate during the off season, and walk up, or park at the main lookout in the summer when it is open to vehicles.

There is dispersed camping nearby.
