Monjeau Peak

New Mexico > New Mexico, oth… > Ruidoso Area
Access Issue: US Forest Service land. The north and west of Monjeau peak are in the White Mountain Wilderness. Details

Somewhat alpine. The peak and bouldering area is at ~9600 feet. Temperatures here are usually very nice in the summer months and untenable in from mid fall to mid spring.

The rock is generally 'egg' shaped granite. The outer layer can often have some flaky, loose rock, but when good lines are found or cleaned of choss, the underlying material is bomber.

A few boulder problems have been established so far, with many more scouted and in the works for summer of 2018. There are rumors of some trad lines and a few bolts on the west faces of the peak.

More scouting for potential sport/trad lines to come. Pictures of all areas will be updated as they become available, including maps.

Getting There

Take NM-48 / Billy The Kid Trail to County Road 532 in Alto, NM. Drive up forest road 117 to Monjeau Look out. Park at the last gate during the off season, and walk up, or park at the main lookout in the summer when it is open to vehicles.

There is dispersed camping nearby.
