UPDATE AUGUST 2024: This area is closed. There are current access issues (violence towards caretakers of the land) which are unresolved between the company who owns the land and the unorganized local climbers. The gate is closed. The community was on talks to resolve the access issues, please respect the community and landowners by refraining from going here till the situation is resolved. But no progress since 2018. Simply they do not want climbers there. Read the letter by Lucho Birkner in escalando.com

There are alternative trail to get in, a small amount of climbers still goes but beware it is agains the community asking not to climb by petition of the owners and safety of everyone. Dont get shot by trespassing. Has happened before.

One of the most popular crags in the immediate Santiago vicinity, El Arrayán or "El Bosque Mágico" (the Magic Forest) is hidden in a small gorge surrounded by trees that provide year round shade (especially nice during the summer months, although you can pretty much climb year round here). The climbing is highly technical on mostly vertical basalt walls. El Arrayan has only a small number of easier routes (5.10 and down) and these naturally tend to get busy. Don't let that deter you, El Arrayán is an amazing place

Getting There Suggest change

Take the road Camino El Cajon toward the "Santuario de La Naturaleza" of El Arrayán. About a quarter mile before the sanctuary, the paved road turns to a dirt road. Park along the side of the road and walk about 100 yards down the dirt road. Take the road/driveway that forks right and up (there is a metal gate that is often closed, however use the pedestrian doorway in the gate). Follow the road for about 300 yards as it winds its way up and ends at a house with a stable. Take the well worn foot path straight ahead for about 15 minutes to reach "El Bosque Mágico" (the "Magic Forest" aka El Arrayán). The area is on private land so take care to be respectful and don't leave any garbage behind.
