Description
Monte Popena Basso is a low summit, rather flat topped with a nice East face carrying a multitude of shorter routes of 4 to 7 pitches. A great place to climb if weather for the higher peaks is questionable, and for gaining experience on Dolomite rock. It can be viewed across the Misurinasee.
Getting There
Drive to Misurina from Cortina d'Ampezzo. A pathway leads from just across from the HotelDolomiti , across the Highway leading to the Tre Cime di Laverado. This is a nice forested path which leads to the area on the left reached by the path. About an easy hour by trail to the base of the wall. An identifying feature is a left facing dihedral that rises the entire height of the face. That is the Mazzorana Dihedral.
