Description
Yes that's really a word in Norwegian.
This massif hosts something like 5 or 6 sub-summits, with the largest being of course Store Austabotntind. It is the highest peak in the western part of Hurrungane and is visible prominently from all directions in Hurrungane.
Store Austabotntind can be summited from the west ridge, requiring only some 5.2 scrambling with major exposure. Alternatively, for a longer day, take the traverse from Søre Austabotntind for climbing up to 5.6 or harder, depending on the variation taken.
There are also many variations tackling the steeper faces.
Depend on the things common to Hurrungane: bad weather, bad rock, wet rock, wet weather. But the adventure and the views will not disappoint.

Getting There
All of the routes starting from on the western side, and some starting other places, are approached from the Berdalbandet parking... found by driving to Årdal from Turtagrø and stopping 300-400 meters before the toll station. There are a few parking options along the road. The well-worn trail to the peak starts on the east side of the road and is marked by cairns.
