There are many seasonal raptor closures with varying dates and specific boundaries. These generally effect The Monument, Kiss of the Lepers, Picnic Lunch Wall and/or Smith Rock group, and possibly elsewhere. These usually run from February to the beginning of August, but each closure is usually shorter than this, and is dependent on the birds' behavior. Description

The Philosopher's Stone goes into the sun around 3:30pm and stays in the sun until dusk. It is windier here than most areas in the park tend to be, sometimes to the point of not being able to climb.

It is up above Koala Rock and seems to be right in the wind corridor. Crowds have not been present any of the times i have been out there, but i suspect people will soon catch on.

The rock quality on the Philosopher's Stone is as good as any rock in the park. It is comparable to Dakine Corner. The rock is perfectly red and features the highest quality rock that smith rocks has to offer off the monkey.

Getting There

Look for the red stone in-between 2 gullies as you near the marsupials. Once you are at the marsupials, traverse across the scree field and keep left on the high route in he middle of the scree field. Then take this trail up until you plato next to some larger boulders above brogan spire, Head start for the marsupial wall and make your way to the Philosopher's Stone.
