Getting weather forecast...

Description

Large single glacial erratic boulder with decent quality of rock. Perfect for a lunch break or after work session. Short approach (under 5min) and somewhat shady.

If you are NOT local to the area it's probably not worth the time or journey.. But if you do go please be careful as under the main roof there is a LOT of broken glass.

If you go I'd love some help and critique with the grading as I am not used to setting the grades, just climbing them. Ha.

Getting There

Off Daniel Webster Hwy in Merrimack NH, turn on to Manchester St, then right onto Al Paul Ln. Parking/ Entrance is on a dirt road on the left just before Fish & Game. Walk down dirt road and the rock will be on your left.

From nh.gov/nhdhr/programs/state…
"Simonds Rock, Merrimack
Simonds Rock is an unusual resource on the New Hampshire State Register. Credited by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) as being the second largest glacial boulder reported in New Hampshire, Simonds Rock measures about 50 feet long, more than 30 feet high and more than 25 feet long. Only the Madison Boulder is larger. Given the rock’s composition of Massabesic Gneiss, the USGS estimates that it was carried to its current location by a glacier from a site about five miles to the northwest. Simonds Rock derives its historical importance as a landmark for land surveyors and travelers along Pennichuck Brook and the Merrimack River for hundreds of years. It has also provided legendary inspiration for writers and storytellers through time. Today Simonds Rock is owned by the Southwood Corporation, a company of the Pennichuck Corporation." Jun 17, 2015

Does it bother you that the name of the rock is actually Simonds Rock? Jun 17, 2015
