Description
Getting There
The main access point for this group is from the village of Madonna di Campiglio. To get there exit the A22 toll way onto the S43 road heading Northwest from the freeway. This exit lies south of Bolzano and north of Trento. After skirting along the west edge of Lago di Sta Giustina (a lake), the road turns south west on road S42. Drive for a few kilometers until you arrive at the village of Dimaro. Here you'll turn south on a small road (S239) heading towards Madonna di Campiglio where accommodations and supplies are available. South of town are car parks that you can drive to, park and begin your approaches following signposted trails leading to several of the rifugios. The mountains and routes are easily accessed from a hut(rifugio) or by a very early start and long morning/evening walks car to car. Routes on Catelletto are approached via the Rifugio Tuckett. Routes on Campanile Basso and Brenta Alta via Rifugio Pedrotti. The Crozzon di Brenta is accessed via Rifugio Brentei.
Routes in the mountains of the southern aspect of the group (Torre d'Ambiez, Cima d'Ambiez, among many others) are accessed from the Rifugio Agostini which is a 75 minute hike from Rifugio Cacciatore. Rifugio Cacciatore is accessed easily via a jeep taxi ride from Ristoro Dolomiti. Ristoro Dolomiti is accessed from the village of San Lorenzo in Banale. To arrive at this village exit the A22 toll road in Trento and head west then southwest on S45b towards Sarche (good sport climbing area). At Sarche turn west through a steep road with many tunnels to the town of Comano Terme at which point you'll turn North on the S421 and drive 9 km to Lorenzo in Banale.
Taxijeep.com provides efficient and reliable access to the Val d'ambiez.
