Description

Petrohue contains some surprisingly good sport climbing on basalt. The setting as of 2014 was very chill with parking right at the crag, right across the road from the impressive Petrohue River. There are at least a dozen climbs ranging from 5.9 to 5.12, or possibly harder. All climbs are single pitch and bolt protected.

The basalt is derived from Volcan Osorno which lies directly to the north and is also worth checking out if you are in the area.

This is a worthy destination if you find yourself with a full or partial day if heading to Cochamo which is ~1 hour to the south.

Getting There

From Pto Montt/Pto Varas, follow ruta 225 east to Ensenada. Continue east of Ensenada on 225 into Petrohue National Park. Drive several miles upstream along the river and look for the crag on the left. It is fairly easy to see from the road.
