Description Suggest change

There are 2 mountains in one massif : Irmão Maior ( 533m ) and Irmão Menor ( 421m ).
Morro Dois Irmãos (Two Brothers Mountain) is one of the most beautiful symbols of Rio de Janeiro. The mountain rises inside the South Zone, between Leblon and São Conrado beaches. The best place to see the majestic form of this mountain is from Ipanema, but Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas offer an impressive view of the mountain too. Close to beaches, buildings, shopping centers and streets, this mountain is surrounded by two poor communities called “favelas”. Vidigal and Rocinha surround the mountain by North, West and South sides.

Getting There Suggest change

Go as far as you can by motor bike and hike in.
A few years ago, the mountain which rises directly out of one of the largest favela in Brasil - the 200,000-strong Rocinha favela - was considered simply too dangerous.
Then a wonderful thing happened. Centro de Escalada Urbana, the climbing initiative to help children living in the favela in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil started.
