Description
Up in Fern Canyon in the southern Flatirons, there are a bunch of boulders, and some are as big as 30 feet. Up along the Fern Canyon trail, there are a few boulders that can be sport climbed and various that can be bouldered. Up behind The Slab, there are a bunch of big, cool boulders that are in a steep, forested hillside and stay nice and shady on hot summer days. The area has seen very few bouldering ascents, other than the few by the odd, psyched, sport climber climbing the back of The Slab. However, there are a few good problems and some potential for new routes, mostly easier stuff.
The area sees very little traffic mostly, I think, because it's in the south Flatirons and because people aren't interested in hiking so far for mediocre boulders, but if you wanna explore and climb unclimbed rocks, this place is super cool. The rock is typical Flatiron stone and is quite good on some boulders while chossy on others.

Getting There
Approach as for the sport routes at The Slab. Head up. Park at the TH on Cragmoor Road, hike up the North Fork Shanahan trail, and then go straight on the Shanahan Mesa Trail until you reach the base of The Slab. Then either go around The Slab to the right and hike up some steep gully stuff, or stay on the Fern Canyon Trail for a bit and then cut over.
