Description
This is a fairly short (10-20M) area with a lot of good routes between 5.4 and 5.10, with a lot of shade and a fire pit area right there. There is a lot of sport routes with a good amount of opportunity to do some trad routes or practice setting trad gear in between some of the more runout sections of the sport routes. And for a good after climbing treat check out the local gasthouse that you'll pass on the way to the parking area.
Getting There
From Stuttgart, travel south on the A8 to the B27, drive south on the B27 then exit onto the B312 towards Metzingen. Continue to follow the signs for the B312, you'll have to make some turns along the way but it's marked, when you get to Eningen you are going to take a left on the L380 (Albstrasse) towards St Johann. Stay on the L380 for about 7km until you see a sign on your left for the St Johann gasthouse (restaurant) which if you follow the paved road all the way back you'll reach the parking area (wanderparkplatz) From there follow the trail to the left towards Glems for about 1.5km and then the trail will fork off and to the left on a dirt trail still heading towards Grüner Fels and Glems. You'll follow that trail until you reach a bench overlooking the city and take a trail on your right for another 300m to the climbing area. You'll know your there when you see the fire pit.
The Gasthaus St. Johann is easy to look up for the parking.
For climbing with kids:
Additionally, the entire approach hike is on a flat, well kept and wide trail that is stroller friendly. Distance is about 1 mile and very easy. The first part of the crag "Rechter Wandbereich" is child friendly, the middle section is ok and the far left is a bit too narrow for small kids to be there.
