Description

Heptonstall is an old gritstone (fine-grained, not coarse) quarry with some impressive, steep lines. It faces south-west so climbing is possible even in winter on sunny days. The most famous route here is Whillans's Forked Lightning Crack.

Getting There

The quarry lies near the picturesque (i.e. a tourist trap) small town of Hebden Bridge. Up the hill from the A646 road to the village of Heptonstall where there is dedicated parking for visitors. Head south-west towards the valley, then drop down and veer right to find the main part of the quarry.
