Description
A wonderful boulder of high quality sandstone sitting atop the ridge between the Picnic Area and the Eastwoods. As the story goes, Steve Edwards and Tim Tharp threw ropes over this boulder in 1996 and scrubed it down and put up a dozen or so problems all in one day. Situated partially in the shade on a nice, flat cushion of pine needles, The Jewel is a great place to avoid the crowds in the other areas. Chances are, you'll have the boulder all to yourself.
Getting There
You can see The Jewel from the road and eastern most campsites at the Picnic Area. Either park at Picnic and walk up the road 100 yards, then up the hill to the boulder or park at the bend in the road just past The Jewel and head northwest up the hill to the boulder. Approach time is just a few minutes.
