Pfahl Climbing

Pfahl means "Stake," perhaps pertaining to the pointy teeth trying relentlessly to eat the sky. Quite strangely, these formations are of both granite and bright quartzite caused by a rare tectonic action. Actually, only a few of these "stakes" are we lucky enough to have above ground. Bolting has been banned here, so use what are left of rusty old bolts and pitons, and place the rest of the pro in what cracks you can find. Many have glue in top anchors, some do not. Many people top-rope here.

There are at least twenty-seven established routes at Pfahl, most under fifty feet, and range from 5.4 ~ 5.10c making it a good place for beginners.
