Names and History (future name changes coming)
Although this crag is named "White Imperialist," it has never been the desire of the First Ascension and the Developers to name this crag in a way that was demeaning or incited racial prejudice to the different people (predominately Asian in this case) that are target of these different route names.
The background to these names are that there is a nearby mountain (seen from the crag) named Ha Ling that was until recently referred to as "Chinaman's Peak." These names were in a way a critique on how this was seen as politically correct at the time even though using a very unfortunate and derogatory term for an Asian-Canadian. Since the re-naming of Ha Ling was completed 1997, this is now the time to change this critique of western imperialism as well. Currently, many parties are working with the First Ascentionists and developers to find better names as this critique is now lost and many see these names standing to continue the same racial prejudice that the developers wanted to critique.
The FA and other parties are currently reviewing these route names in hopes to eliminate any issues going forward.
