Description

This is a subarea created for better organization. It will include routes in the South Park. Obviously, with an ice park, the routes will vary with spigot proliferation.

For the time being, these routes will include Hen's House to Dunce.

This area is largely filled in to saturation, but in early or late season, there can be mixed terrain between the ice sections.

This area was originally created with introduction to ice and teaching in mind. It has become incredibly popular...pushing the need for newer areas like New Funtier, South Park, Graduate School, and the like. Due to its popularity and concentration of less-experienced ice climbers, this is likely one of the most hazardous areas for falling ice, so beware!

Getting There

Hike up to the ice park, or drive and park. Then go uphill from the upper bridge along a trail. Cross the trestle, and you are there. Consider taking extra care peering over the edge as you try to figure out your route location, etc. Many of these routes have fixed anchors above with numbers to assist you in figuring out your location. There is a steep, often wet, descent to scramble down at the uphill end of this area. Those inexperienced to ice should take extra care and wear crampons on the way down.
