Description

This is accessed from the Agnes Falls trailhead up Chalk Creek Canyon, just outside of Buena Vista. Go up past the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs and past Mt. Princeton campground. The pullout is just to the right of Chalk Lake Campground. If you go over a bridge or see a lake on your left, you've gone to far. It has BOMBER granite, tall problems, classic slab problems, and another classic dihedral. It is SECLUDED.

Getting There

Hike up around 100-150 yds, and you will see it through the trees on your left.

I like this boulder...its high and has lots of variety, from slab on the front to straight vertical and slight overhung on the back. Well worth a visit. Oct 6, 2008
Love this boulder. I have been climbing on it since the late '90s. I called it the Big Agnes. Did a few classics on the west face, but never had the nerve to do the high ball 2 lines right of the "Sorrowful Journey". The line goes up the shallow dihedral and angles up and right, following the black streak. Bold moves to top out. I have some other projs nearby. I will post soon.

MAJOR BIT OF IMPORTANT BETA!!!

A rock slide took out a family of 5 in October 2013. This apparently happened close to the falls, no where near where the main boulder is. The trail is however considered CLOSED, and the parking area has been blocked off and a small note on the board saying you can receive up a $5000 fine or 6 months in prison for being parked at TH or hiking beyond the sign. The current sign is in effect until Oct. 1, 2014.

Let's hope they open it back up, because this boulder is AWESOME. It is tempting enough to "poach", but I consider myself very lucky that I only saw the Sheriff drive by while hiking out and that he did not see me. Additionally, the news report states that "the size of the slide was stunning. One huge boulder was 10-feet-high and 8-feet-wide and estimated to weigh more than 100 tons". :)

One more thing, it is located next to Chalk Lake campground, not Chalk Creek.
CHEERS! Sep 2, 2014
The boulder is now open. Climbed there 8/20. There is a new trail that loops around. Old trail is sort of closed up near the falls. Aug 23, 2016
