Rule Changes Concerning Pets at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area to Take Effect March 1.
Beginning March 1, new rules will take effect at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area designed to balance the need to better protect sensitive natural habitats atop the rock, including the vernal pools, and still allow visitors to continue to enjoy central Texas’ most popular destination with their pets.
Starting Tuesday, pets will only be allowed in specified camping areas, day-use areas and the Loop Trail. Pets will no longer be allowed to accompany hikers on the Summit Trail that ascends to the top of Enchanted Rock.
Most trails, including the Summit Trail, are closed 30 minutes after sunset, allowing park visitors to view the sunset and safely descend to the parking lot. The Loop Trail is the only trail open after sunset to gain access to the primitive camping areas.

Description
Little Dome (also known as Little Rock on many maps) is the smaller of the two prominent domes at Enchanted Rock. It sits to the southwest of the Main Dome, and rises up behind the campsites on the north side of the park road. There is very little climbing on the actual dome itself - most of the climbing areas are scattered boulders that sit either on the dome itself, or slightly off the dome along the Loop Trail. Consequently, Little Dome sees a lot less traffic than its larger neighbor. Climbing areas include the Kingdom of Zilch located on the dome behind the camp sites; the Carnivore, Loop, and Lizardhead Boulders located just west of the dome; Shuttle Rocks (Morning Veranda) on the west side of the dome; and the Sopwhip Boulders and the Frog on the east side of the dome in Echo Canyon. The routes are all short, single pitch lines. Most are trad, with an occasional difficult bolted line. Some of these routes are among the most difficult in the park.
Getting There
Because the Little Dome climbing is so spread out, there are a number of different approaches and options. To reach the top of the little dome, either scramble up from behind the many campsites on the north side of the road, or break left from the Echo Canyon trail and scramble up the dome. To reach the Frog and Sopwhip boulders, continue down the Echo Canyon trail and look for the red climber's trail to the left. The Kingdom of Zilch area is found behind campsite numbers 40 to 46. To reach the climbing areas west of the dome, follow the park road past the campsites to the turn around on the western end. Pick up the loop trail here and follow it around the west side of the dome.
