This is the southernmost of The Sierra Nevada Fourteeners.
It was probably ascended by Native Americans first.
William Bellows made the first recorded ascent in 1864.
Getting There
For southern access the easiest approach is from Cottonwood Lakes.
Go west on Whitney Portal Road. Turn left on Horseshoe Meadows Road. Turn right at the Pack Station Cottonwood Lakes Trailhead sign. Park at Horseshoe Meadows Parking lot and take the trail to the lakes.
For eastern access park at the Tuttle Creek trailhead, take the trail to the Ashram, then follow another trail up towards the peak.
