Description

Mostly sport, with a few trad routes mixed in. Highlight of the area is World Wall I, with a great selection of super fun routes from 5.9 to 5.14 on a long, overhanging wall. Some routes stay dry in the rain, and the crag gets a mix of sun and shade throughout the day.

Getting There

From the west side, take I-90 east to North Bend. Exit on the second North Bend exit (exit 32), go left over I-90 to the T-intersection, go left, then right on the Mt. Si road. Shortly after crossing over the river, look for parking lots on the left for the Little Si trailhead. A mellow 25 minute hike takes you to the routes.

Good climber food in the town of North Bend!
Downtown has an old style bakery with good everything.
Next to the Ace Hardware is a somewhat hidden place called the Reef. Good fish and chips and bottles of Snoqualmie.

Finally a good swimming hole is located at the end of 6th street (take a right off of Balarat)

Have fun after climbing! Feb 9, 2006

What type of rock is here? History of the area? What town is this close to? Feb 14, 2011

The town of north bend is 5 minutes away. The area is about 40 minutes west of Seattle on I-90. The rock is volcanic, I have heard it called rhino rock. It is a little slick but surprisingly fun to climb on. Not a destination crag but certainly worth a trip if you are in the Seattle area. Most of the routes where put up in the 90's though there was climbing earlier. Some newer harder routes have gone up recently, mostly by Ben Gilkison I'm sure there are a few others, too. There are some access issues, in only that, new routes can not be established on any wall that doesn't currently have climbing. Additionally, routes are supposed to end with chain anchors and loweroffs, instead of topping out to prevent erosion. Mar 14, 2011
Little Si is all plutonic igneous rock. World wall is mostly serpentine (hydrated ultramafic rocks! Cool!) which is a phylosilicate (primary, unlike secondary clays) which makes it super slippery. Serpentine is some of the most beautiful rock in the world to look at when cut and polished, so be stoked to climb on it!! Jun 15, 2011

I am in town for a few days and was thinking of going to Little Si, but a friend mentioned to me that he thinks 70m ropes are necessary for most of the routes there. Is this the case? I only brought a 60m with me. Jul 25, 2011

My partner and I clocked this at 1.1 miles to the closest wall(Blackstone) and 1.3 to the furthest(World Wall). Oct 2, 2012
Is there a guidebook for this area? Or everything just on MP? Jul 20, 2015

There are Rakkup guides for Exit 32 and Exit 38. But if you don't have a smartphone, you're out of luck. I had heard on cascadeclimbers.com about a standard guide coming out recently, but don't know the status of that. Jul 20, 2015

This guide is a little out of date, but useful for orienting and finding the classics. $5 kindle edition, wat?
