Description

Thunder Point is a small buttress reminiscent of British Gritstone in its stature, style, and surrounding scenery.

Aside from the worthwhile 11+ bolted arete, the value of Thunder Point lies in its collection of 5.6 to 5.8 trad climbs---which are all well-protected and uniquely engaging.

There is a lavish belay ledge at the top with plenty of options for gear anchors, as well as an easy walk-off trail that leads back to the stone staircase trail.

Thunder Point is a nice counterpoint to the rest of Upper Dream Canyon and a great place to practice trad skills.

L --> R:

1. Arcane Shift, 9, 1p, 70', gear.
2. Chief Oxenreider, 6, 1p, 70', gear.
3. Irish Goodbye, 8, 1p, 70', gear.
4. Sunset Arete, 11+, 1p, 70', bolts.
5. Center Tap Corner, 7, 1p, 50', gear.

Getting There

Thunder Point can be found by taking the lower, right-hand, west-most trail from the parking lot which leads to Oceanic Wall.
When the trail turns into a stone staircase, Thunder Point will be on your left. It is defined by a prominent bolted arete abutted by two dihedrals.
