Description

Blockhead is the northernmost formation on the South Bluff. (Called "Ovehanging Tower" in Swartling & Mayer.) The northeast face is overhanging and looks to contain some very stiff routes. The northwest face is steep and blank except for a 5.11 seam. The south face is not quite vertical, and contains a small roof. Access to the top can be gained by scrambling up the dihedral on the southwest side of the formation.

Blockhead is by far the most interesting formation on the South Bluff.

Getting There

Head up to the easternmost talus slope on the south bluff, southwest of the group camp area. The best approach is to walk east along the railroad tracks from the South Shore parking lot. Walk until you reach two white and orange markers on either side of the tracks. Head up the bluff here and bushwack until you reach talus. You will see the rock walls near the top of the talus slope.
