Description
When viewed from the east end of the Echo Tee Parking Area, this small formation is roughly 200 yards to the east (right) of Swept Away and TS Special on the right end of Echo Rock. Mounds is located in front of the south face of the Little Hunk. The west end of the Mounds formation is lower and home to the excellent, short crack Eff Eight. To the east (right as viewed from the parking area) and higher up is the excellent and unique Deep Throat.
Getting There
Park in the large Echo Tee Parking Area at the right (east) end (about 100 feet to the right of the outhouse). Follow the delineated trail past the right (east) end of Echo Rock (passing Pope's Crack, Swept Away, et al). Roughly 50 yards after you pass Echo Rock, you will see a well-worn social trail branching off right. This trail leads to Eff Eight (the clearly visible left-slanting crack at desert level) and to the right and up higher, the obvious crack of Deep Throat with its unique hole just right of the base of the crack.
Total approach time from the Echo Tee Parking Area is about 5-7 minutes of mostly flat walking (with some scrambling to get up to Deep Throat, Behind the Green Door, etc.).
