Description
This excellent, generally sunny cliff is a good place to go on a cold, windy day (and a place to avoid midday in hot weather). While there are climbs of all grades here, the central routes are quite steep and noteworthy.
Getting There
The Brown Wall is located on the north end of Real Hidden Valley. From the Real Hidden Valley (Hidden Valley Nature Trail) parking area, follow the nature trail about 150 yards until you are in the actual hidden valley. From this spot, Sports Challenge Rock will be right of center and the Sentinel will look a bit like a whale and be to the left. Take the right fork of the nature trail, passing by the right (steeper/shaded) side of Sports Challenge Rock. Follow the nature trail downhill several hundred yards (the Great Burrito, et al will be on your right) until it turns sharply left and starts to loop back toward the Sentinel.
From this point on the nature trail you should be able to see the cliff. It is varnished and has a series of right-leaning cracks. Leave the nature trail and walk north a bit in a drainage. From the drainage, go a short distance up and right on talus to the base of the wall.
Total approach time from the nature trail parking area is about 10-15 minutes, with most of the trip being on the nature trail. The base of the cliff is all boulders, so it's not a great place to bring small children.
NOTE: If you continue down this drainage, you will pass the Lost Horse Wall on your right and reach the Lost Horse Ranger Station Road.
