Description Suggest change

Nice route climbing located in Southwestern Virginia outside of Coeburn and just a few miles from the town of Norton.

The areas here are listed by order of the mile marker signposts as you reach them from the parking lot. The trail itself is a flat pea gravel biking and walking trail. Just like the VA Creeper Trail, this is a reclaimed railroad bed from an old coal train track. You walk/bike through a dark and interesting old coal train tunnel to access the vast majority of the climbing here.

Getting There Suggest change

Follow Highway 72 south for 2.2 miles. The entrance for Guest River Gorge parking lot is on the left just past Flatwoods Group Picnic Area.

PARKING

Suggest change
Attention climbers :

There is only one legal and allowed parking area for the Guest River Gorge.

The only appropriate or allowed access into the gorge is by way of the main, approved, public access parking lot off of Rt. 72 south of Coeburn.

If you are parking at any other location it is a serious access issue and could bring about climbing closures. Please respect private property. If you are concerned about the approach bring a bike (the trail is a wide, flat bike path). The cliffs and crags cross through multiple land owners and we should all be mindful and aware of while climbing.
