Right On
Dec 23, 2024 · Lead / Flash. P1: placed a couple of decent pieces before the bolt. The bolt almost felt off route; I wanted to stay right where I could have placed more gear. Foot popped a couple of times in the traverse to the bolt and moving left and above it. Should have linked with P2 — the little belay cave wasn't that comfy. P2: pretty chill and very short. Got a little wide towards the top. Next belay ledge was lovely, with room for all three of us plus a party of two that passed us. P3: holy hell. I saw the technique but still struggled with it greatly. Left gear on my right loops, which was a mistake. Towed my pack from my haul loop, also a mistake. Placed some good bigger pieces (up to BD 4) until it got too wide, then ran it out to the undercling flake. Opted to stay deeper in the chimney (actually stepped on a couple of the wedged rocks). Built an anchor at the next belay but probably didn't need to. P4: really wanted a BD .4 several times but had used both in the previous anchor. Felt a bit runout with the lack of good gear (did sling a few chickenheads). Should have extended more pieces as the rope drag was horrendous. Wasn't feeling the final unprotected slab so bailed to the notch and belayed followers up. Lowered/downclimbed to the next huge ledge and rapped from there. The sun set as we were rapping and the rest of the descent was in the dark. Route finding through the boulder field was tricky — maybe should have gone out further from the wall and around the boulders? All in all a fun (and hella sandbagged) adventure!

Dec 22, 2024 · Lead / Onsight. followed the runnel from the ground. BD #3 protects the lower crux well but those moves are not 5.4. bring tiny cams or the top is runout to the summit.
