Getting weather forecast...

Bolted welded tuff on the rim looking east over the Gorge. I bolted about 6 routes here, from about 5.7 to .10b. There is a cool beginner wall with three easy routes that can be top roped or led. 5 minutes from car to the base.

Getting There

Follow same directions as to the Alcove ... but stop about 100 yards before you get to the Alcove. Scramble down through a notch to get to the base.

I bolted two climbs up there and I would say there are around ten bolted routes. Really cool hang and fun routes on good rock. Mar 10, 2016

Hey Matt -- cool. I thought the rock was good and hang even better. Mar 10, 2016

We were here a few days ago and really enjoyed the climbing. Thanks Todd for putting up these routes!

Many of the anchor bolts we encountered were wiggly. (Might just need a tightening?) Jul 1, 2017
Hello Todd,

Why is there no route descriptions for any of the 10 or so routes at this cliff?
Why is there no "detailed" description for getting to the cliff by car or by car/hiking to avoid damaging a sedan?
Why do several of the hangers rotate as tho they never were properly tightened? Jul 5, 2017
today I went out to the cliff and rapped in and tightened up as many bolts as I could on the central wall. I tightened up all the anchors and most of the lead bolts. I also tightened up all of the anchors I could get to on top of the cliff. They all tightened up nicely, besides the left anchor bolt on Start Me Up. It was very loose and would not tighten up. It is a weird anchor with the chain bolted to the rock with washers... next time I am out there I will replace that anchor.

It would be a good idea to bring a 1/2" and 9/16" wrench when climbing out here to tighten bolts if needed. Aug 26, 2017
Thanks Todd and others for developing this area. Approach and most of the routes are described in the Lewis guide to the Mammoth area. The first wall you encounter, which has 10a's on the left and right of a recess, now has a new route up the center face in between. Any info. on this? Looks about the same grade, give or take, as the others.

This is a beautiful place to hang out and do some fun, moderate climbing. Just digging the view is enough! Gorgeous.

Oh, I did tighten a somewhat loose bolt, too.

Look at the "with updates" in the submitted by at the top of page.

Thanks, Matt. Yep, that sounds about right for a rating. We did it today. If you climb it trending to the left of the bolts, I'd go 10b/c. If you trend to the right, 10a. Fun! Thanks for your work on this area.

Thanks, Matt, for all your time and hard work. Don't mind brucy, he just loves to nitpick, never a positive contribution. Oct 7, 2017

anchors on 'start me up' replaced with long glue-ins. Jan 12, 2018
Thanks, old5ten, for fixing those anchors. They needed it. I tried to tighten them, but they would not. Also, look forward to checking out the new route.

Now that there is one route added to this area, maybe it is time to add the rest. But I don’t really care either way. Apr 7, 2018

hi matt,
i emailed with todd previously and he seems ok with that. i was actually planning on putting up more info/pics, etc. on all the routes there, including the ones you described in the updates section but you should do that if you're so inclined. there are also a number of new routes (at least 5 or 6) to the left of 'scavenger' - not sure if those are yours or if someone else wants to step up and claim those. i think the cat's out of the bag since marty's guide. at this point it seems best to just share info and do a nice job along the way. rim view is a special place and pretty much in my backyard, i hope it stays pristine! pm is a better way to get a hold of me ;-) Apr 11, 2018
I say share the info (please). I was up there on a cool cloudy saturday in July all by my lonesome even with the Dreamers crowded. Plus there's quite a few climbs now mostly in similar grades and almost all top-ropable so crowding shouldn't be an issue. Jul 15, 2018
Bolted a climb to the right of Scavenger and Big Boy Bite. Short 4 bolt 5.10***, Jacinda’s Day Off. Move down stream a couple hundred feet. You will find four sport climbs. The first two you encounter I did not bolt. The bolted face to a splitter is Will Power, 5.9*. Poor rock, but fun climbing. The one to the left of that climb is Feature Creature. It climbs a face to a 4’ roof and then to the top of the cliff, 5.10***. Aug 16, 2018
