Tunnel 1 closure
For more details visit: jeffco.us/open-space/alerts…
The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation
Bumbling Stock
Evil Area
Ghost Crag
Highlander
Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves
Description
Bolts 1-4: big holds on vertical terrain. B5-6: mantel, then traverse right. B6-7: tricky stem crux into big holds to finish.
This is a new route (Dec. 2025)! Wear a helmet!
BETA: The crux of this route can be difficult to decipher, so if you're frustrated, read on and maybe this will help. I've found the best way for me to do bolts 6-7 (crux after the right traverse) is once in the corner, place the left foot out, right hand palm down behind you (the key), then right foot up into the stem. From here it is relatively easy to stem up into good holds. There are many different ways to get into the stem, but some are less graceful than others.
