Tunnel 1 closure
For more details visit: jeffco.us/open-space/alerts…
The two areas Jefferson County Open Space intends to close in Clear Creek Canyon, shown on the attached maps, encompass the active eagle nests. If the Clear Creek eagles continue to nest in the active nests, these areas will remain closed from February 1 through July 31. If the eagles choose different nesting sites, the closures will be adjusted accordingly to protect those eagles during their breeding season.
Currently, rock climbing areas that fall inside of the seasonal raptor closures include:
Blonde Formation
Bumbling Stock
Evil Area
Ghost Crag
Highlander
Skinny Legs
Stumbling Block
Tetanus Garden
Fault Caves
Description
This route merges with Gneiss Tombstone after 5 bolts and shares the fun moves to the finish. Find the start above a nice, flat rock just to the right of 17 Top.
Begin with a powerful sequence on big holds. You can clip the 1st bolt from a great jug, but a stickclip would be nice. Work through some easier terrain, and never stop looking for awesome holds. Move right onto the face, and use a horizontal crimp rail and small foot holds for a short, stout section leading to the bolt line on the neighboring route.
This is a good route to challenge yourself at the grade. The two cruxes are short, well-protected, and completely different styles. Climb Gneiss Tombstone first and hang draws on this on the way down!
A long draw on bolt 6 and an alpine draw on bolt 7 will keep the rope running smooth like butter if you care about such things.
