Description

The broad West Face of Hurd Pk rises above the lowest two Treasure Lakes. A wide gully with occasional granite slabs splits this face and offers a 3rd class scramble to the summit. There is scree on this route but you can stay on slabs and boulders and overall it is way better than the east side slopes.

Location

Hike from South Lake and at .8 miles there is a sign and the trail splits left to Bishop Pass and right to Treasure Lakes. Head to Treasure Lakes. When the trail cuts between the first two Lakes, cross-country east aiming for the bottom of the West Face of Hurd Pk.

Scramble and hike the wide central gully and near the top, scramble up and right into the next gully to the south. Continue hiking to the high point to the south and gain Hurd’s north-south ridge for a spectacular view of Long Lake and the surrounding mountains.

Scramble farther south along the ridge to gain the summit which is characterized by dark colored rock. There was a summit register here in June ‘25.

”Glissade” the sandy slopes on the east side down to Long Lake, around it to the north, and find the Bishop Pass Trail back to South Lake. This took me 6hrs round trip.
