Description
The Dipper Slide is situated on the SSE aspect of the southwestern ridge of Giant and is most apparent from Rocky Peak Ridge. The Dipper is broken into several distinct segments separated by choke-points of vegetation. There are a couple low 5th class sections on the first sections that can be avoided via the side. Round trip is about 6.5 miles with an on-slide elevation gain of 750'.
Location
Approach: Begin at the trailhead for the Ridge (Zander Scott) Trail near Chapel Pond and hike to the intersection with the East Trail to Rocky Peak Ridge. Descend to the col. The bushwhack begins in loosely knit woods, but closes in as the slope increases. Continue descending about 300 feet vertical feet and find the drainage between Giant’s ridge and Rocky Peak Ridge.
Exit: From the top right-hand side, bushwhack to the right on-contour until intersecting the East Trail after about 275 ground feet.
