The Great Arch

Unknown climber on the great arch

Leading pitch 3 of the classic Great Arch at Stone Mountain.

Start of the Great Arch proper on tree ledge, overlap on right protects (#0.4-#0.75 C4 range) well against zippering or a long fall if a climber slips before placing a piece on the way up the first pitch.

Yep, it really is all that.

Doesn't get much more aesthetic. Spectacular view of Stone as you enter the meadow on the approach trail.

Sometimes it FEELS this steep.

Grant preparing to lead P2 of the Great Arch. The light patch above is where the flake was removed. Might have been a little harder than 5.5, but the small crack to the left can be protected with passive pro or small cams.

What an awesome route with some cruiser climbing. Such a sweet line!
