Howdy,

I've had a project in the works for some time now, working to model and design replacement trigger bars for many popular cams.

These triggers sandwich together around the cam stem and are glued together with superglue.

All parts are manufactured using Selective Laser Sintering with 3201 PA-F Nylon.

Cost:

Black Diamond C4/UL, Wild Country Friend: $13.25

Wild Country Friend V1 Model: $9

Totem Cam Trigger Bar: $13

Totem Cam Trigger Bar V1 Model: $10

Black Diamond C3: $13

Black Diamond 4/5/6: $14

Shipping is $6 per order for CONUS or order through my Squarespace website: https://infraredclimbingdesign.squarespace.com

This has got to be the most significant application for 3D printing in our little climbing universe. Please let's not let this get lost under hundreds of posts in the months and years ahead. Nice work OP!

Awesome project—maybe post it into the gear thread, too? I agree with the above—this deserves attention.

Wow! This is amazing! I recently got my #5 cam returned by BD because they can’t fix the trigger bars, and I was so confused thinking “how is there not a solution to this problem?” Well, you’ve done it! Thanks! I’ll be ordering

Slick. Great use of 3d tech. Did you Lidar scan the triggers to start?

All models were designed with basic caliper measurements translated from the original trigger bars

Dug out a stuck 3 a couple years ago, trigger bar busted in half… but never threw it away. I knew there was a good reason. Thanks Max, will be ordering

This is a great idea, great execution, great use of 3d printing.

My only suggestion-- have a lawyer write up some sort of liability release language for the website (eg 'climbing is dangerous, fixing broken cams could be dangerous, i'm not liable, etc...) to avoid some moron who either

(a) thinks he is fixing a cam with a broken trigger bar, but really there are more existential issues wrong with the cam, and blames you

(b) blames your trigger bar for a cam not working in an accident

Great call!
I’ve included a clause similar to that with every set of install instructions that gets shipped with the cam.

Max included pictures of a totem, but forgot to list them in his blurb. Just giving a friendly bump to note that I've been to the website and he does indeed offer bars for totems at an eminently reasonable $13 a pop.

Super cool, Max. Way to spot a niche and fill it.

Hey Slim, must've been a formatting issue on mountain project. Thanks for pointing that out! I'll fix it now

Your designs look great!

from the FAQ:
How are your products made?
> All products are currently 3D printed, using Selective Laser Sintering (SLS).

What materials are used in your Products?
> Currently, all products are printed with 3201 PA-F Nylon.

I wonder about the superglue holding in the long run. Have you done extensive testing to see how it holds up or compares to top adhesives? Hot/cold, sun, simulated hard usage, twisting?

Bump for a good product, just installed a trigger bar and a wire kit from Max today. Couple notes:

1. Website appears to be down : (

2. The triggers that are listed for BD #6s work on the #8! Probably also the 7, but I just replaced my #8 (which BD won't do--super frustrating considering the price of the item).

3. The wires for the 8 are a little tight getting them to pop over the studs/hooks, but it goes. There's a note in the instructions about not prying on the hooks directly--just be careful and push them in with a standard head screwdriver.

4. The wire kit shipped for a BD #2 had slightly too thick of a wire to go into the holes in my old style solid stem Camelot #2. I drilled out the holes  with a 5/64 bit and that worked perfectly, but just FYI. I assume they slide right in to the newer models, but I can't say for sure.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
