Black diamond trigger wires
|
|
Need new trigger wires oh my #3 c4 but they are sold out everywhere. Never had to replace them before. Are they often not available for long periods or am I likely to find them anytime soon in stock? |

following (same situation as you). I recently re-outfitted mine with weed whacker cable and was impressed with how well it's working. YMMV. |

I emailed Black Diamond and asked about trigger wires for #3 C4s and got this (just today): I'm really sorry to share that we've discontinued this item. I completely understand how frustrating this must be, and I truly apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. I followed up and asked: Have you discontinued all trigger wire kits or only #3s? Can I mail in my cams to get them fixed? Or now do I have to buy new cams or figure out how to rewire them myself? Will keep you posted. |

Thanks! Kind of makes me want to replace it with another brand.one of the benefits of the c4 is how easy they are to replace the wires! |

It’s not particularly difficult or expensive to use those thin piano wires from Ace Hardware and a spool of thin cable. There are spools of cable on Amazon that come with a bunch of swages. I have a crimping tool but I think pliers would be fine, just a little rougher. The stuff I have is a better size to repair Aliens than Camalots. I’ve got a few Camalots that need repair though, I’m going to try to use the same thin stuff I have but add a sleeve of shrink wrap over the cable and swage. I’ve only ever needed to repair a camalot larger than 3. I’ve had to repair friends of all sizes. |

Following. They've been out of stock forever. And they've been "too busy to re-sling" off and in for years as well... has anyone had them re-sling in the last year? What was the turnaround? |
|
|
I just bought a setup to replace my own (and my friends). You trying to DIY it or are they not even re-doing the triggers when you ship them out? |

Check with Desert Rock Sports in Vegas. They might have them in stock. |

As long as its just the cable part and swage that needs to be replaced, and not the solid wire, I can do it withe the same size wire and swage as C4s and Friends. I have some thinner cable as well. $5 a cam for both wires if needed and you pay shipping back. I just need to reuse the same solid bars preferably. I can make the bars too but they will not have the same butted ends. I bought the stuff to do my own last year and its super easy. I would post pictures of the end result but Im out of town until the 17th. Anyone reading this just pm me if you want some done. |

If anyone is near Santa Fe, NM, I have the swager and plenty of wire and am happy to help. Just let me know. |

I also will re-wire your BD cams. $6, and that includes replacement of the hard wire (the upper part) as needed - usually it's not needed, it's the flexible cables that fray and fail. Drop them off at Rock & Snow if you're local. Otherwise PM me for mailing details. 48 hour turnaround. Photo of typical repairs below. Alternatively... if you're handy enough to remove the existing wire including the hard wire segments, for $8 I will mail you a pair of OEM-equivalent replacement wires. Just push them through the lobes, bend the ends down to hold them in place, and work the cable through the trigger bar and under the cleat there. THIS IS FOR C4 ONLY - NOT THE BD ULTRALIGHT, X4 OR Z4 |

Here's what I got back from BD (I bought my cams so long ago and not directly from them so figure I'm on my own): I would recommend that you file a claim with our warranty/service department. You can file a claim online here: warranty.bdel.com This link will take you through a series of short questions to obtain your contact information, identify the product and the issue so that our warranty/service department can assist you. You will receive notifications via email at every stage of the warranty/repair process so after you file the initial claim you shouldn’t need to follow up. The processing time can vary seasonally, and we do appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support. If you have any issues or other questions, please let me know. |

Vicki Schwanteswrote: I read it as warranty and service department. I don't know from personal experience, but from what I've heard, it shouldn't matter when or how you bought the cams. It's probably worth trying to submit a service claim/request at the very least. |

I think I've posted this before, but yard trimmer line is a great replacement. Feed it through the lobes/trigger then melt the ends a bit. I think it lasts longer than the metal original, and it's cheap! Comes in different diameters, so measure the lobe holes to make sure you get something that will fit. |
|
|
Ryan Franzwrote: The hard wire on a BD #3 is roughly 0.050 in. I haven't seen that diameter trimmer line in a long time. Even 0.065 is getting scarce in the stores. |

unfortunately when you have a hundred models of packs, a hundred models of pants, a hundred models of hoodies, a hundred models of beanies, etc, it is just really, really hard to carry replacement wires. |

The evil shopping empire does have some options at 0.05". I know in the past I've been able to sand/cut down the line if it's just slightly too big to fit, so I'd think the 0.05" would work. I do wonder about durability with this small of line...but for $5 it'd be easy to try it out. If it does work, it's a lifetime supply of cam repair! |
