While we're at it, why why why do people lower perfectly drivable vehicles, rendering them as pavement only?

With a to-do list.......

*only 283 on mine, but I'm sure it'll hit 1000 eventually

I'm pretty liberal with TODOs, I like that when I go to a new zone I can look at all the TODOs I have for that area and see what I once thought looked cool/have some sense of where to start rather than start my research from square one.

Whats the point? How do you keep track of the 1000+ routes you want to do? Why make a list so big you have so little chance at completing it? Wouldn’t it be more satisfying to make a reasonable list and actually tick them off/make progress? If you climb 5.10, why do you put a hundred 5.13 routes on your to-do list that you probably won’t do for years if ever?

genuinely curious.

You seem to have an obsession with to-do lists.

Potentially, but mainly just bored and finding things to complain about that don't affect me whatsoever

I don't have thousands, but I most certainly have lots I'll never do. Why? I dunno, but at the least:

1. They accumulate because I forget to take them off.

2. They accumulate because I forget I've already done them and to do them

3. Stuff I'll never even see let alone do but it's ridiculously interesting (in the same vein as me wanting to do Will Gadd ice   )

4. Everything that's a remote possibilty for a particular area

5. In at least one case, it's a unique bit of geology, like columnar basalt that's tipped entirely horizontal.

7. What's it to you? (Okay, boredom on your part. That's legit. I'm stuck in a long recuperation and going  nuts myself)

Honestly, I think people do just dump blocks of things in as bookmarks for possibilities in areas they might go to. Same thing as a print guidebook with an overabundance of sticky notes poking out.

Best, Helen

EDIT to add, I have climbed with people who have thousands of ticks, including lots of travel.

So I don't have to redo a bunch of research if I go back to an area.  Just look at my todo list.  More of a bookmark list I guess.

Why do I find it worth my valuable time and very amusing to look at the profiles of MP posters who post strange questions?  Is it because I used to analyze people's psyche's for a living?  Is it because Mystery is my favorite genre for TV, movies and books?

Why would someone who has only been climbing since Feb 2017, has already ticked over 1200 routes all over the place, and is only 25 years old find it strange that someone else would have over 1000 routes on their to do list? At your rate, you could put 1200 routes on your to-do list and have them ticked by the time you are 30 years old. Why only 1 or 2 routes on your to do list for each location?  You only tag 4 star routes - You've already been to the Valley, do you think you're might actually forget to do Butterballs and the Rostrum next time you're there unless they are on your 22 route to-do list?

You say you're bored - Ron Olevsky has a post about a potential gathering and mentioned something about wanting to get out with someone to do a couple more first ascents.  Maybe you should hook up with him.  A young strong partner could be a great complement to his vast experience.

Just added Butterballs and Rostrum to my To Do list.

Thanks!

Thank you phylp, excellent response (open invitation to others to please analyze my psych and roast/rate/comment/etc accordingly)

Admittedly, I am bored due to being one week post shoulder surgery. If I could link up with the legendary Mr. Olevsky, I would be psyched! I now understand the reasons for adding thousands of to-dos, and I do fully appreciate the phenomenon of over-stoke, as it has landed me either a fantastic time and/or an injury on many occasions. I, personally, use my to-do list for things that I will actually do soon (hopefully) because my 15 year, 18+ hour-a-day social media addiction has conditioned me to only seek instant gratification/dopamine, and has given me the attention span of a squirrel.

Nailed it. MP is my garbage dump of cool climbs, interesting areas, etc. I keep a curated list of my actual goals elsewhere.

Ah!  I've had both of mine done in the past, so I can relate.  Time to make up a to-do list of easy slab routes that you can do without using your shoulder!  Some of my most fun climbing has been stuff I got on because it was the only thing I could do while rehabbing from some surgery or injury.

My response was just teasing, I'm glad you didn't take it seriously.

Because they're basically bookmarks, not really a list of things I HAVE to do. So every new area I plan on going to I'll add whatever seems interesting. If I never happen to climb it, whatever.
