It's a little cringy to lie straight up like that, especially to such a kind and helpful person, but he seemed to take no offense. The faceplants were hilarious :)

ESPN just did this with Eli Manning. 

His footwork had me rolling the first time I saw it. He executed well.

Agreed but at the end of the day the dude still gets paid and seemed to be a good sport about it, so no harm done.

Forget Magnus, he should just hold the camera for his sister.  Plus, that would be better video fare…watch guy “instructors” attempt to “teach” Hannah how to climb

Fun video, I was really impressed by the instructor.
Not quite sure what I applaud more - instructors approach and delivery or Magnus' faceplants.

I was hoping magnus wouldn't send so hard, so I can continue to say I am climbing bad because of rental shoes. 

Some of this schtick can be pretty cringe (fake beginner guitar player- then SHREDS!), but this seemed harmless enough.  but it's chef's kiss when it's serving a higher purpose - like trolling MAGA rallies.

Maybe people can post related "pro pretends to be beginner" videos that are well done?

I think the video was light hearted fun and (maybe unintentionally) serves as a great video for beginners to learn a little technique. The coach is very good at his job and explains climbing technique well, and magnus did a great job playing the beginner and displaying what bad technique looks like and getting corrected through the video.

How would this be unethical? Maybe dumb, but not unethical. I enjoyed it.

 Video game coachings tend to be good cause you can do voice overs to change how you sound, and it’s in a game, so they can’t see you. Makes it easier to troll 

a lot of high level gamers know each other; so it tends to become an interesting chess battle of messing with one another. How long can you remain undercover? How long can the coach remain undercover about the fact that you’ve exposed your own cover as a noob? How long do they cover the blown covers from the audience? Find out on the next episode
