Hey! One of my long term goals is to climb free rider. I've been climbing for like a year and a half and for a while my goal was to lead a 12a sport climb. Which I achieved last fall and makes me a pretty big deal at my gym.

My new goal is to climb free rider. I'm giving myself idk let's say 5 years from now to do it. I don't really know where to start though. Or really what my short term goals should be. I'm a pretty budding trad climbing, having just bought a rack and only feeling comfortable in like the 5.7-5.8 range.

I know I need to learn about hauling and big walling as I need strength to actually be able to climb the fucking thing. But like how strong do I actually have to be? What grades should I be comfortable leading to be able to do this thing. Or maybe I'm thinking about this totally wrong.

Trying to make it out to yosemite this spring hoping it will be a good first step!

For many climbers free climbing freerider is a once in a life time achievement while it could be done in 5 years. You need to become very proficient in cracks, glassy slabs and granite face climbing. Once you climb your first 12a trad route you're probably still 3 years off.
